“78 per cent of mortgages were introduced by intermediaries, up from 56 per cent in 2014.”

Which? Mortgage Adviser’s response to research by technology provider Iress, regarding 78 per cent of mortgages were introduced by intermediaries in 2015.

David Blake of Which? Mortgage Advisers comments:

“Arranging a mortgage these days can become a very complicated process and therefore, it’s no surprise people have steered towards the expertise of professional mortgage advisers as opposed to going it alone to arrange a mortgage. The benefit of using a professional to arrange your mortgage should not be underestimated, and can often be the difference between buying the property you want or missing out.”

It’s important to check whether a mortgage broker is independent, if they’re tied to a particular lender or a panel of lenders, and if they’re able to compare direct deals (deals which can only be taken out by the borrower, rather than through a mortgage broker).

Which? Mortgage Advisers will compare direct and broker-only deals and search over 9,000* mortgages and we offer independent and impartial advice to find the mortgage that is right for you.
